BayWa r.e. UK officially opened the Bracks Solar Farm. With a total capacity of 30 MWp, the project is a brilliant source of clean energy, producing enough electricity to supply up to 8,000 British households and helping to offset nearly 11,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
Our UK team, who managed the solar project, organised an opening event in collaboration with Railpen, who acquired the solar farm earlier this year. More than 50 guests received a tour of the site, including a presentation by the project’s ecological consultant, covering biodiversity enhancements that were implemented to enhance the local flora and fauna. They also had the opportunity to take a ride on a scissor lift to enjoy a full 360 degree bird’s eye view of the solar farm.
Solar farms are essential to achieve the UK’s goal of net zero carbon by 2050 and ensure homes and businesses can be powered by clean, renewable and domestically generated energy.
Construction on the solar farm began in September 2022, and the project was sold to Railpen at the end of last year. This marks the second project that BayWa r.e. sold to Railpen, completing the sale of the 18.8 MW Tralorg Wind Farm project in Scotland in 2019.
It is the first completed PV project in this country after 5 years, and I am glad to be back! So, with Bracks solar farm, we actually celebrate the remarkable achievement of our UK team, as they brought us back to business so successfully here. And there is more to come!
The costs of the climate emergency will be many times worse in the future if we do not rapidly accelerate our transition to renewable energy. As Mayor I’m proud of the Combined Authority’s work enabling the transport, skills, housing and other infrastructure needed for a net zero carbon future and am hugely encouraged to see this solar farm now working at full capacity.
